At our monthly members meeting in June our guest was Hilary Bowen who has been making jewellery from silver clay for the last 15 years. She told us how she had been amazed at the versatility of silver clay and how it does not require any specialist equipment. Her demonstration of making an earring out of a print of a hawthorn leaf was fascinating, although some of us were slightly nervous at the use of the blow torch !
The end result from clay putty to shiny 99.9% solid silver after filing and polishing was amazing.
Hilary will have her jewellery on display at Hampshire Open Studios from 16th - 25th August from 11.00am to 5.00pm at her studio at 1 Yew Tree Cottage, The Marsh, Breamore, SP6 2EL.
She also runs workshops for those who would like to pursue this further . See her website at http://www.silverclayjewellery.co.uk/
